In 2008:
BAHS is pleased to present a $500 grant to the following agencies:
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren provides factual information and
moral support to assist grandparents in making the transition from
already having reared a family to beginning again; and to assure an
improved quality of life for each of the grandchildren and grandparents.
They are raising 7,758 of Brevard County's children. They have discussed
counseling for teenagers with a certified counselor ad will use the
grant for that purpose.
The Brevard Association for the Advancement of the Blind is an
all-volunteer organization which has been serving the blind and visually
impaired in Brevard County for 42 years. Their Program for Independent
Living helps individuals live as independently as possible. They will
use the grant to purchase "writing guides" to assist the visually
impaired to write checks, letters and envelopes, keep track of their
finances, phone numbers, or any other daily tasks that require writing
skills.
In 2005, Yellow Umbrella Child Abuse Prevention Center received $1,000
The mission of the Yellow Umbrella is to improve family life and reduce the scourge of child abuse and neglect. Providing positive and nurturing parenting skills and anger management through education and social support strengthens our families. Increased community awareness of the destructiveness to individuals and families that results from child abuse, and the continued community participation and support are vital to our mission.
In 2004, Community Services Council of Brevard, Inc./Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) received $750
The mission of the Community Services Council is to develop solutions to community problems and to promote and maintain independence and quality of life to the citizens of Brevard County, particularly the elderly and disabled adult. RSVP recruits seniors 55+ and places them in meaningful and impact-based volunteer opportunities in the community, thus improving the quality of life for not only the senior but everyone in the community.
