BAHS Gives to the Community

Brevard Association of Human Services (BAHS) gives back to the community and acts as a source of funding to non-profit organizations. 

In the past, BAHS has provided backpacks filled with school supplies to assist Project Hope in providing the essentials to children of migrant workers prepare for school. 

During the Holiday season, BAHS has generously supported the Yellow Umbrella Child Abuse Prevention Center by providing gifts to children served by the Yellow Umbrella as well as "Shoebox Gifts" for shut-ins served by Meals on Wheels

In addition to these type of donations, BAHS provides financial support to non-profits serving Brevard County.  A grant application has been developed for non-profits to request assistance.  For 2008, the BAHS board will consider applications submitted by non-profit organizations between January 1 and April 30.  Only those requests submitted utilizing the application form available on this website page will be considered.  Applications must be typed and submitted to the board via email at BAHS e-mail or via regular mail to:  BAHS, P.O. Box 964, Melbourne, FL 32902.  The 2008 grant will be $500.00. It is possible for more than one organization to receive a grant. Special consideration will be given to organizations that have a level of participation in BAHS and that provide service to or within Brevard County, Florida.  

The BAHS board will determine the amount (if any) available for contribution through its grant program (the board determines this amount annually).  Grant applications must be submitted within the timeframe established and will be reviewed by the BAHS board at their meeting following the application deadline.  Applications reviewed by the board will be voted upon and a maximum of three finalists will be selected.  The board will recommend the three finalists to the BAHS membership for voting. In the event of a tie, the board will vote as one. 

Grant awards will be mailed to the approved recipient within 45 days of final BAHS approval. 

Announcement of BAHS grant awards will be made via press release to local media and here on the BAHS website.

Applications must be received between January 1 and April 30, 2008.

The BAHS board will select three finalists. 

The finalists will be voted upon by the BAHS membership.  In the event of a tie, the BAHS board will vote as one.

    Special consideration will be given to organizations that:

    Have a level of participation in BAHS.  (Remember to state within your application how your organization or members of your organization have participated in BAHS)

    Provide service to or within Brevard County, FL

    In 2008:

    BAHS is pleased to present a $500 grant to the following agencies:
    Grandparents Raising Grandchildren provides factual information and
    moral support to assist grandparents in making the transition from
    already having reared a family to beginning again; and to assure an
    improved quality of life for each of the grandchildren and grandparents.
    They are raising 7,758 of Brevard County's children. They have discussed
    counseling for teenagers with a certified counselor ad will use the
    grant for that purpose.
    The Brevard Association for the Advancement of the Blind is an
    all-volunteer organization which has been serving the blind and visually
    impaired in Brevard County for 42 years. Their Program for Independent
    Living helps individuals live as independently as possible. They will
    use the grant to purchase "writing guides" to assist the visually
    impaired to write checks, letters and envelopes, keep track of their
    finances, phone numbers, or any other daily tasks that require writing
    skills.

     

    In 2005, Yellow Umbrella Child Abuse Prevention Center received $1,000

    The mission of the Yellow Umbrella is to improve family life and reduce the scourge of child abuse and neglect.  Providing positive and nurturing parenting skills and anger management through education and social support strengthens our families.  Increased community awareness of the destructiveness to individuals and families that results from child abuse, and the continued community participation and support are vital to our mission. 

    In 2004, Community Services Council of Brevard, Inc./Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) received $750

    The mission of the Community Services Council is to develop solutions to community problems and to promote and maintain independence and quality of life to the citizens of Brevard County, particularly the elderly and disabled adult.  RSVP recruits seniors 55+ and places them in meaningful and impact-based volunteer opportunities in the community, thus improving the quality of life for not only the senior but everyone in the community.
